There is an excellent chance that you have heard a lot about a new car from Kia called the Kia K5. The new K5 is essentially a renaming of the popular Kia Optima. The midsize sedan has been known as the Kia K5 in South Korea for the last ten years. This name will now be used in the United States for the first time, starting in the 2021 model year. In addition to the name change, the 2021 Kia K5 will also bring some major upgrades to the car formerly known as the Optima.

A Refreshed Design

One of the big selling points for the Kia K5 is its sleek design. Kia is using a brand new platform to give their midsize sedan a longer, leaner, and lower profile. The K5 will look nothing like the Optimas you see driving around Danbury right now. The sloped roof and full-width taillight help add to the sleek aesthetic.

The interior of the 2021 K5 will also offer some features that have never been found in a Kia before. Your Android or Apple smartphone can finally be connected to the infotainment system without the use of wires. This makes handling phone calls and navigation an absolute breeze as you drive around town. If you have the right battery, your smartphone will even charge itself while it is wirelessly connected to the infotainment system.

The new K5 will not see many upgrades in terms of safety, but this is because Kia already offered the latest features in last year's Optima. Like every other vehicle manufactured by Kia, you can expect the 2021 K5 to be loaded with advanced safety features. A few of these include rear-cross traffic alerts, blind-spot monitoring and forward collision avoidance assistance.
